One of the best things about taking a million steps on the Camino de Santiago was taking those million steps. For the past three years, I have tried to write weekly posts about the spiritual beauty that was unlocked during my 500-mile walk through Spain. With the exception of a few posts about yoga, I have not spent any time on the benefits of incorporating exercise into your daily life.
Let me start with a Trump style comment: Someone busier that you went for a long run today!
With that out of the way, let’s focus on the wonderful benefits of adding daily exercise to your life.
- Relieves stress and anxiety.
- Improves sex.
- Improves self-esteem and body image.
- Strengthens the heart.
- Builds stronger bones.
- Promotes better sleep.
- Improves mood.
- Increases metabolism.
- Improves digestion.
- Reduces disease risk.
We live in a world of quick fixes and take pills to solve everything. Unfortunately, this is not the case for sweat equity. The only way to succeed with an exercise plan is to make it a lifestyle. Try to begin with a realistic goal and start small. Nothing will derail your plan quicker than immediate burnout from trying too hard. 30 minutes three times a week for two months is the perfect on-ramp to a healthy lifestyle. Before you know it, you will have the strength and stamina to walk 500 miles on the Camino de Santiago!!
